Overview

Deep Rifling is a unique gun mechanic featuring an unconventional barrel design that alters how shells behave over distance, creating a dynamic damage profile based on range.

Deep Rifling introduces a range-sensitive damage system, encouraging aggressive playstyles while adding strategic depth to long-range engagements. Proper positioning and distance awareness are essential to utilize this mechanic fully.

How It Works

Deep Rifling uses a specialized barrel with a non-standard internal profile. This design allows shells equipped with a “star tray” to better match the barrel shape.

Key effect:

  • A smaller projectile is paired with greater propellant mass
  • This results in a significant increase in muzzle velocity
  • Damage output becomes distance-dependent

Gameplay Mechanics

Unlike standard guns, Deep Rifling weapons do not have a fixed alpha damage value.

Instead, they use two defined damage thresholds:

  • Close Range Damage: Applied at distances under 50 meters
  • Long Range Damage: Applied at 500 meters

Damage Scaling

Damage between 50m and 500m follows a linear reduction curve:

  • At 50m or less → Maximum (close-range) damage
  • At 500m → Minimum (long-range) damage
  • Damage scales proportionally based on distance

Example:

  • At 250m, damage will be approximately midway between close and long-range values

Affected Attributes

Deep Rifling impacts:

  • Alpha Damage
  • Module Damage

Both values scale consistently with distance using the same linear model.

User Interface (UI) Support

Garage / Stats Display

  • Two damage values are shown:
    • Damage (<50m)
    • Damage (500m)
  • These values are visible in all relevant stat panels

In-Battle HUD

The HUD dynamically reflects expected damage based on target distance:

  • Under 50m
    • Displays Optimal Damage Icon (Red)
  • Over 50m
    • Displays Non-Optimal Damage Icon (Black)
  • Potential damage indicator updates in real-time based on aiming distance.
  • Only appears when you are aimed at an enemy vehicle.
