Tank origin

Little is known about the specific details of the WZ-111’s historical design. Development of this heavy tank began in the early 1960s, with the final plan receiving approval in 1964. The prototype was tested with a weighted placeholder turret in place of the actual turret and the 122mm gun called for in the plans. Due to mechanical problems revealed in the trials, the project was discontinued.
