Tank origin
The Type 63 was introduced in the early 1960s as an amphibious light tank with firepower approaching that of a main battle tank. It used the same turret and weapons system as the Type 62 but incorporated a hull that was based on the hull of the Soviet PT-76. The Type 63-I upgrade had a higher top speed thanks in large part to a new 12-cylinder diesel engine.
