Tank origin
A key element of the Soviet Union’s approach to land battles during World War II was its use of large-caliber guns in its armored vehicles, such as the 152mm howitzer of the SU-152 self-propelled assault gun. To a degree, this approach also guided Soviet development of other anti-tank systems in the decades following World War II. One example was the SU-152 Taran, a single prototype of which was built in 1965 using the 152.4mm M-69 Taran rifled gun.
