Tank origin
Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the Soviet Union pursued several tank designs that incorporated large-caliber guns in order to damage enemy tank armor more effectively. One such design was the SU-152 Taran, also known by its factory designation: the Object 120. The single prototype, built in 1965, featured a 152.4mm M-69 Taran rifled gun. However, other weapon systems like the 125mm smoothbore cannon ultimately proved more effective, and the Object 120 was not produced further.
