Tank origin
Between 1940 and 1945, Japan’s army developed a number of armored vehicles with the goal of countering western tanks, such as the M4 Sherman, that might enter Japanese territory. The Ka-To was one such vehicle. According to several sources, work on its design began in 1943, using the hull of the Type 4 Chi-To as a foundation. The engine was to be placed in the front, while a 105mm gun would be mounted on the back. Although two possible guns had been built by 1945, the Ka-To’s reconfigured chassis was never completed.
