Tank origin
Throughout the 1970s, NATO-aligned countries continued their efforts to develop armored vehicles that could counter a large Soviet tank force. The Chieftain Concept Test Rig (also called the “Chieftain Casement Test Rig”) was the result of a joint project between the UK and West Germany that began in 1972. It was designed to be an anti-tank vehicle with a 120mm rifled gun, a sloped front glacis plate, and a Chieftain chassis, capable of being driven forward and in reverse. Due to its joint origin and its similarities to the World War II Jagdpanther, it received an additional nickname: the Jagdchieftain.
