Tank origin
The amphibious reconnaissance vehicle project (from the French "Engin de Reconnaissance Amphibie de Combat") began in the early 1960s. The current prototype was built in 1963. The vehicle had a low weight with considerable firepower and could overcome water obstacles. Among the advantages was a rather high cross-country ability on mud and snow, and the aluminum alloy hull provided better protection than most amphibious vehicles of the time. Despite the positive test results, the ERAC 105 Proto was not accepted for service due to economic reasons.
