Tanks Reforged is the initiative that overhauls vehicles from World War II mode and brings them in line with today’s battle standards.
This edition features the Chinese medium tanks in the 121 line and their associated Premium tanks. These monster mediums will be particularly worth exploring not only because of the massive updates, not only because of On-Track, but because of the Medium Tank Mastery Challenges available all throughout February!
For this series of Tanks Reforged, instead of addressing each tank individually, we’re going to discuss the line as a whole before getting into the specific stat changes.
NOTE: You’ll also find an additional update made to one of the French heavies featured in the last round of Tanks Reforged.
So, take a look at the rebalancing details below to start. Then continue reading to see how to make the Tech Tree vehicles yours with On-Track!
The Chinese medium line has a lot in common with the Soviet medium line due to being based on similar vehicles. One of the main differences in the higher tiers is that the Chinese mediums mount large-caliber heavy tank guns, making them some of the hardest-hitting mediums tanks at their tier.
They’re generally performing decently, but we still thought they could use some gameplay improvements to make them feel better to play and make them a bit more competitive. To achieve this, we focused on improving firepower and mobility.
Firepower
We made various gun handling improvements throughout the line that reduced the dispersion penalties, either from the chassis or turret movement. This helps maintain better accuracy in general and allows you to target enemies much more quickly and easily. There were also various improvements made to aim time, accuracy, or reload time where needed for guns that were underperforming.
At Tier IX and X, additional gun depression was added over the sides of your hull, which allows you to engage enemies from a wider range if you’re at a higher elevation. This also gives these vehicles a slight edge over their Soviet counterparts.
These changes will help enhance their ability to trade damage more efficiently and use hit-and-run techniques. But… you can’t run without mobility, so that’s the next area we addressed.
Mobility
Medium tanks generally rely on mobility to make up for their lack of armor. The Chinese medium tanks are no different. Their turrets can be pretty bouncy, but they lack any useable hull protection.
Many of these vehicles felt a bit sluggish to play and didn’t quite have enough horsepower to get up and move when needed.
So, we’ve improved the horsepower of their engines or increased their top speed. These changes will allow them to be quicker and nimbler and to feel better to drive overall.
In the previous edition of Tanks Reforged, changes to the second turret on the Andre the Giant AMX M4 mle. 54 were missed and will be updated with this set. This allows players to choose from a more armored turret but slower reload or a normal turret but with a faster reload.
