Conquer a new line that reaches from Era 1 all the way to Era 3 and take command of six new all-rounder tanks for Cold War mode!
As successful as the T-54 was in the role of a Soviet main battle tank, inevitably work to develop its replacement began in the decades that followed, using the best technology available at the time. The T-72 and its variants were the more widely produced successors, but another series of tanks featured notable technological advancements.
Our latest Tech Tree line pays tribute to that series’ development history. Master the battlefield with these six new vehicles!
Branching off from the T-44 A starter vehicle, this line features five medium tanks, plus a heavy tank for the Détente Era (Era 3) at the line’s end. Each one offers notable mobility and concealment, not to mention the hard-hitting guns that our Soviet Eastern Alliance tanks are widely known for.
Plus, the final two tanks in the line (the T-64B obr. 1981 and T-64BV obr. 1987) gain the ability to launch barrel-fired missiles as a third type of ammo for some extra punch.
Read on to learn more about each of these new tanks, available in the game starting August 19!

The Object 430 program worked actively between 1953 and 1957 to develop a replacement for the T-54 tank. Several prototypes were manufactured, including the baseline Object 430, which featured a 100mm D-54TS gun. Ultimately, after the prototypes underwent trials in 1958 and 1959, the decision was made to pursue a design with stronger armor and greater firepower. The project was discontinued in 1961 in favor of developing Object 432.

One of the main battle tank prototypes developed through the Object 430 program in the late 1950s, Object 430 U proved to be an upgrade even compared to the baseline model. This was due to its 122mm smoothbore gun and 160mm frontal hull armor, which demonstrated that a medium tank chassis could support the levels of protection and firepower typically associated with heavy tanks. This knowledge later became key during the development of Object 432.

Although the T-64 looked similar to its predecessors (the T-54, the T-55, and the T-62), it represented a leap forward in Soviet tank technology at the time. It featured a 115mm gun, a new suspension that included six small dual road wheels, and improved armor that incorporated ceramic inserts. Despite these improvements, the T-64 was expensive to build, and reports of its reliability were unfavorable. It was relegated to a lower status in favor of the more affordable (and eventually much more widely produced) T-72.

The T-64A further improved upon the basic design of the original T-64 with the incorporation of a 125 mm smoothbore cannon, a move which necessitated the reduction of the crew to three, incorporating a mechanical autoloader system instead. The tank also features basic Nuclear Biological Chemical (NBC) protection.

Although the T-72 eventually became much more widely produced than the T-64, attempts continued throughout the 1970s and 1980s to overcome the T-64’s design and production issues. The T-64B variant introduced a number of improvements over the T-64A. These included a reconfigured hull, streamlined turret armor, and a new version of the 125mm gun that was capable of firing AT-8/Songster anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM).
