World War II mode is about to get explosive. The AKV 151 is the first new Premium artillery vehicle to arrive in the game in over five years!
In 1949, Sweden’s Royal Army Administration issued a request to develop a new artillery system using a 155mm gun. Although the request initially went to the Bofors design firm, the Landsverk firm took up the project in 1953, using a prototype chassis from the canceled KRV, or Kranvagn, project along with a Bofors oscillating turret.
On August 12, a new Premium vehicle inspired by that Swedish prototype will arrive in the game. Prepare to take aim with our latest SPG: the Swedish Tier VIII Artillerikanonvagn 151 Artillery!
Gameplay Tips
As we mentioned, it’s been a while since we last released a Premium artillery vehicle, but there’s no better time than the Gods of Thunder season to bring the boom.
How much of a boom? Well, the AKV 151 features a 155mm three-round autoloader that’s capable of delivering 2,790 damage in 20 seconds. We’d call it a pretty big boom.
- Find your ideal spot, take aim, and open fire to rain heavy metal down on your enemies.
- Once your three-round clip is empty, it’s time to relocate while you reload. Other players can see tracers from your shells and will be hunting you down.
Speaking of taking aim: those who don’t regularly play SPGs might not know that when you play artillery, you can switch between Overhead View and Trajectory View by pressing down on the right stick (RS) on your Xbox or PlayStation controller.
Here are some more tips to help you get the most out of the AKV 151 or any other self-propelled gun:
Overhead View vs. Trajectory View
While playing artillery, press the Aim/Zoom button (Left Trigger [LT] for default controls, Left Shift on keyboard) to enter Overhead View. This is a basic, strategic top-down view that will allow you to target vehicles at far distances by moving your cursor. If your line of fire turns red, that means that your shot is obstructed; a “Shot Obstructed” notice will also appear.
Trajectory View provides artillery players with an alternative camera option alongside Overhead View. Trajectory View is lower to the ground and angled, and it rotates automatically to simulate the direction of the shell's travel, using the player's vehicle as the central pivoting point.
- Trajectory View can be accessed by pressing and holding the Camera Zoom (Right Stick [RS] for default controls) for a short time while in Overhead View. Hold it down again to switch back to Overhead View. On keyboard, press and hold “G” to switch between Overhead View and Trajectory View.
- Pressing the Camera Zoom button without holding it down swaps between higher and lower zoom levels for both the Overhead and Trajectory cameras.
Snap to Target
Artillery vehicles have a special feature in the overview map that allows you to "Move Camera" to the selected grid square. This is an important feature to master, as it allows you to quickly acquire targets no matter their location on the map.
- Important note: The "Move Camera" option is accessible only while you’re in Overhead View or Trajectory View. If you’re in standard third-person view, you won’t have this option.
How to snap to your target:
1) Enter Overhead View or Trajectory View.
2) Open the large overview map (the one that shows grid markers).
3) Move your selector to the desired grid square and press the corresponding button for "Move Camera."
4) Exit the large overview map, and your camera will now be in that grid. You can manually move your camera to locate the enemy you’re trying to engage.
