COPPA Compliance for U.S. Players Under Age 13

(IMPORTANT NOTE, NOVEMBER 2025:)

We have identified a technical issue affecting the recently implemented Age Verification process for U.S. child accounts.

To prevent further disruption, the verification process has been temporarily disabled while our team works on a fix.

Once the issue is resolved, Age Verification will be re-enabled, and we will provide an update.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue.

In North America, including the U.S., World of Tanks Modern Armor carries an ESRB rating of Teen (13+). In compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (“COPPA”), we need to obtain verifiable parental consent (“VPC”) from parents or guardians before collecting, using, or disclosing information (subject to certain limited exceptions) from all U.S. residents under the age of 13. Read more about COPPA requirements.

How the Process Works

Notification in Game

  • Starting September 30, 2025, all current child console accounts for World of Tanks Modern Armor will receive an in-game message notifying them that from October 28, 2025, access to the game will be provided to children only after obtaining VPC.

Sign Up/Player Login

  • As of October 28, 2025, when any player under the age of 13 signs up or logs in to a Wargaming account to play World of Tanks Modern Armor, they will first receive a request to add an email address for their parent or guardian (“Parental Email”) for further sending a request for VPC. Until VPC is obtained, the player will not be allowed to access World of Tanks Modern Armor.
  • For sending parents/guardians an email at the request of a child to play World of Tanks Modern Armor, verification of parent/guardian, requesting VPC, and setting up parental controls, we use the solutions of our service provider Kids Web Services (“KWS”)*.

Request for VPC and Setting Parental Controls

  • Once a Parental Email is provided by the child, the parent/guardian will receive an email from KWS.
  • The email will contain our direct notice with all disclosures on collection and processing of children’s personal information pursuant to COPPA as well instructions on how to provide VPC and set parental controls for the child to play World of Tanks Modern Armor.
  • The parent/guardian will have fourteen (14) calendar days to resolve a request for VPC and, if VPC is provided, set up initial parental controls.
  • At any time in the future, the parent/guardian will be able to revoke VPC and manage parental control. For this, it’s necessary to use the Parent Portal, a parental control dashboard provided by KWS. For any questions or issues, please contact Wargaming Player Support or email privacy@wargaming.net.
  • In case Wargaming brings any material changes to practices with regard to the collection, use, or disclosure of personal information from children, to which the parent previously consented, Wargaming will send to the Parental Email the new direct notice requesting VPC again.

Access to the Game or Deletion of Wargaming Account

  • If the parent/guardian provides VPC, Wargaming will grant the child access to World of Tanks Modern Armor and the features described in the direct notice, which was sent to the Parental Email.
  • If VPC is not obtained for any reason (the parent ignored or rejected the request for VPC) within the period of fourteen (14) calendar days from the date of the request:
    1. the child’s Wargaming account will be considered denied, and the account deletion process will be initiated in accordance with applicable law and following Wargaming data retention policy. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed once completed.
    2. KWS will also delete the Parental Email from its records.
  • If VPC is revoked by the parent/guardian at any time in the future, the child's Wargaming account will be deleted. The parent/guardian can also delete their Parent Portal account (either by logging into their account or contacting KWS), which would also revoke access for the child and subsequently result in the child’s Wargaming account being deleted.

Data Access and Data Deletion

  • Parents/guardians can request access to their child's personal information to review and/or have the information deleted.
  • For this, please contact Wargaming Player Support or email privacy@wargaming.net. Such a request should be sent from the Parental Email and include the nickname of the child’s Wargaming account, as this will help us speed up our response.
  • For data deletion and data access requests for data held by KWS, please reach out to privacy@kidswebservices.com.

Should you have any questions or issues regarding child accounts or COPPA requirements described in this article, please contact Wargaming Player Support.

* Parent Verification and Consent Management are services are offered by our service provider KWS. These services assist us in delivering direct notice, verifying that the parent/guardian who provides VPC is an adult as well as in enabling the parent/guardian to set up parental controls for the child who requested access to World of Tanks Modern Armor.

The verification of the parent/guardian is conducted by KWS using a method chosen by the parent/guardian from the list of specific methods identified in COPPA or otherwise approved by the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”). Please note that KWS will tell Wargaming if a parent/guardian successfully verified their adult status but will never share the verification information provided by the parent/guardian with Wargaming.

Read more about how KWS collects, use, processes, and protects personal information in the KWS Privacy Policy.
