Did you hear that? Those cackling, growling, snarling, howling sounds that seem to be coming from a place not too far away?

Sounds like those can mean only one thing: The Monster Tanks are back … and it’s time to hunt them down in the Monster Hunter Challenge!

Monster Tanks don’t just look fearsome. Every year, come October, each one awakens for Monster Mash mode, a special game mode in which the Monster Tanks battle with incredible supernatural powers.

Monster Hunter gives you the chance to earn a legacy Monster Tank before Monster Mash begins. It also grants you some special seasonal bonuses. But be warned, Commander: this is no easy quest. Learn all about it below…

Challenge: Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter is a chained Challenge that requires you to complete stages by earning points. This year, you have three ways to earn your points – two standard goals, and a third, bonus goal available to those who already own a Monster Tank:

On your way to your Monster Tank, you’ll also earn Emblems, Garage Gear, Halloween War Chests (article coming Tuesday, October 14), and more.

The menagerie of Monster Tanks has grown so large that some non-licensed Monster Tanks can’t be earned through Monster Hunter. The following tanks cannot be earned from the Challenge for 2025:

• Chinese Tier VII Dragon Type 62 Light Tank
• British Tier VIII Bellerophon Centurion Mk. 5/1 RAAC Medium Tank
• German Tier VIII Höllenhund leKpz M 41 90 mm Light Tank
• Chinese Tier VIII Death Chariot Heavy Tank
• Soviet Tier VIII Gorynych KV-5 Heavy Tank
• American Tier VII Lycan T71 Light Tank
• German Tier VIII Wraith Panzer 58 Medium Tank
• British Tier VIII Inferno Chimera Medium Tank
• German Tier VIII Asterion Heavy Tank
• Pharaoh’s Fury Ramses II Escalation Era (Era 2) Independent Medium Tank

Fear not! If you own any of these, you’ll still be able to play them in Monster Mash, and you can still get your Monster Tank x2 Commander XP bonus (see below). If you purchase one of these tanks from the Store this year, you’ll be eligible for Monster Drops (see our Halloween Store Bundles article for more info).

And, of course, these tanks will return to Monster Hunter in the years to come.

New for 2025: This year, you have choices, hunter. You will be able to earn either TWO older Monster Tanks (from 2023 and earlier) or ONE of the Monster Tanks from 2024, which are new to the Challenge for 2025!

After completing Monster Hunter (in its entirety or after claiming your final Monster Tank), you’ll unlock the Monsters Unleashed Challenge for additional rewards. Details below!

Monster Tank x2 Commander XP Bonus

Even more treats await you: Battles in your Monster Tanks will earn twice the Commander XP from October 14 through November 3!

Whether you got your tank this year or any year before, via the Store or the Monster Hunter Challenge, the x2 Commander XP bonus is active on any Monster Tank in any Multiplayer, Co-Op, or Monster Mash battle as long as it’s Halloween on our battlefields. Activate a Commander XP Booster, and you’ll earn even more Commander XP!
